Manly Super Blog: Carving a path through Super Bowl week

Yes, at long last we can focus on the game on the field now that the endless wait for kickoff is only hours away instead of days and weeks. Don't forget to keep logging on after the game kicks off, as the Manly Super Blog lives up to its name by staying live throughout the game, when I'll be posting my quarterly reports on everything from game to the broadcast to the commercials - in other words the part that's fun, because it's completely informed by hindsight - a beautiful place where "wardrobe malfunction" isn't speculation, but a very real and grossly underwhelming reality.

Hillary Clinton on Foreign Policy

But I will not be penciling in the leaders of Iran or North Korea or Venezuela or Cuba on the presidential calendar without preconditions, until we have assessed through lower level diplomacy, the motivations and intentions of these dictators. Raul Castro, for example, has a stark choice. He can continue to stifle human rights and economic freedom in Cuba, or he can chart a new course toward democratic reform. We need to engage with our allies in Latin America and Europe to encourage Cuba on to the right path. But we simply cannot legitimize rogue regimes or weaken American prestige by impulsively agreeing to presidential level talks that have no preconditions. It may sound good but it doesn't meet the real world test of foreign policy. I have traveled to so many countries working on issues involving some of the most intractable challenges we face.

Today's Report

I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate.

Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008. Exciting times, indeed- more on this story

Interfax's Interview

Talks are an exact process. They require certain formulas and clarity: just as mathematics or physics. Subsequently, we asked to formalize these intentions in a form of a simple and clear proposal that the U.S. was ready to put forward. We waited for almost a month and a half. It is likely that this was the time required for the U.S. administration to adjust the wording and possibly to hold additional talks with partners. But what we finally saw lacked the elements that would have shown the U.S.s real readiness to not only hear, but also to listen to us.

It is likely that the Moscow proposals outran what the U.S. administration is really ready for.

One of the elements of the U.S. oral proposal was the permanent presence of Russian officers at missile defense facilities in the Czech Republic and Poland.

Britney Spears

Sam Lutfi was finally served the restraining order yesterday that effectively requires him to stay 250 feet from Britney Spears and have no contact with her whatsoever. The restraining order was set to expire today, but the judge in the case extended it to March 17, according to the AP:

In court papers, Jeffrey Wexler, an attorney for her father, James Spears, wrote that "after three weeks of apparently evading service," Lutfi was served at 11 a.m. outside his Los Angeles apartment.
The order, which requires Lutfi to stay 250 yards away from Spears and her home, was set to expire Friday. Wexler had asked for the order to be extended.

Poor Sam Lutfi. He must miss Britney Spears. I bet he walks in on random pap smears just to remember the good times. Surprisingly none of the women really cared until Sam started throwing Cheetos at them and screaming "Where's the checkbook?! I'll feed you to Satan!" Then it got a little weird.

Romanov says plumber's bid to buy Hearts 'just a pipe dream'

You know, there are some jokes that are so funny that it's worth wheeling them out at every opportunity, that isn't one of them. Give it a rest now. Can't believe the Supporters Trust are against Munro making an offer. Which supporters do the purport to represent? I've been through all this on another thread already today, so I'll just summarise it here:- supporters pissed off- need someone to push for answers- this mob should be doing something- but they're as much a part of the problem as Romanov himselfWhether we need a new owner or not, we need someone to do something. If he comes in with an offer at least it gets things out in the open. .

Concealed Carry: ABC Apparently Prefers Fish-In-a-Barrel To OK Corral

Interviewing a student advocate of concealed carry on campus, Good Morning America's Bill Weir fretted today that it could lead to an "OK Corral" situation.

Weir spoke with Mike Guzman, a student at Texas State University and a leader of a national group called Students for Concealed Carry on Campus. Weir's opening gambit: "Are you carrying a gun now?"

Guzman said that he was, and does so everywhere but on campus. Sort of made me wish Guzman had asked Weir if he was unarmed.

You can view the video of the entire interview here, but I'd focus on this bit of editorializing by Weir:

BILL WEIR: The idea if there's two or three people in an economics class, and a gunfight breaks out, are you really saying, it's sort of like we're devolving to the OK Corral here.

Interest rates towards 10%

We will stop the blame game" , " The buck stops with me". I don't know how you propose you could have "got the liberals out early (like 5 yrs ago)" , however if you are referring to the 2004 election then Mark Latham would have been Prime Minister until 2007, which means we would now have the Coalition back in government, and we wouldn't be facing 3 years of catastrophe under another disastrous Labor government.
