| Blue-eyed son set to farewell SCG
There are times when you think, 'Gee, we could have done with him at NSW', but your brief in cricket administration is to give players the best chance to represent Australia." Gilchrist was in the Australian one-day side within three years of going to Perth. Back in Sydney, he would have spent most of that time playing second fiddle to Emery, whose Test came in 1994. Bernard is now Australian manager and will be with Gilchrist in the SCG dressing room today. "It's been a privilege to see him [become] the kind of player and man he is now. There are some very good qualities there." Gilchrist's first NSW match was forgettable. While McGrath stormed onto the first-class scene with 5-79 off 30 overs, and an 18-year-old Ponting cracked 125, Gilchrist batted at No.7 and made 16 before being trapped lbw by Tasmanian Shaun Young.
Directed Self-ordering Of Organic Molecules For Electronic Devices
ScienceDaily (Feb. 26, 2008) A simple surface treatment technique demonstrated by a collaboration between researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Penn State and the University of Kentucky potentially offers a low-cost way to mass produce large arrays of organic electronic transistors on polymer sheets for a wide range of applications including flexible displays, "intelligent paper" and flexible sheets of biosensor arrays for field diagnostics. .

Sunnyside lounge G Spot X'd out
Sunnyside men will have a hard time finding the G Spot. The owner of the suggestively named business - which many locals believed was to become a strip club - is now hoping to open a restaurant in the nondescript building on Barnett Ave. near the Long Island Rail Road tracks. Two years after the initial controversy erupted over the Punto G - Spanish for G Spot - Emilio Rubio said he now plans to open the Calibar Restaurant and Lounge on the site. But he continues to face community opposition. Rubio took down what a local lawmaker called a "sexually explicit logo" from the building's facade this month. But he steadfastly denied he ever planned to open a pole-dancing palace there. "From the beginning, we told the community that it wasn't going to be a strip club," Rubio told the Daily News.
Decisions and illusions
That we wander, sheeplike, from one bad decision to the next, unaware that we're being led? Are we just hopelessly thick? "I think the right way to think about this is not 'stupid' but 'human,' " Ariely said during a recent stop in Atlanta. "That's how we're designed. The thing to do is to use some of these findings to be more cautious." Ariely's findings — some of them funny, some of them frightening — explain why we do the things we do. "Predictably Irrational" shows how easily we can be manipulated by savvy marketing — how Starbucks persuaded us to pay twice as much for coffee than we were used to paying, for example, or how amazon.com's introduction of free shipping persuaded us to buy more books. The book is often amazing, and frankly, so is Ariely.
COUNTDOWN TO BOOT CAMP
It's late evening at Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego. A bus rumbles to the curb and the doors open with a loud "whoosh." A man wearing a broad-brimmed Smokey Bear hat climbs on board and greets the 30 or 40 young men huddled inside, some of them trembling with excitement. And fear. The man speaks in a harsh, almost guttural bark, and gets right to the point. "From this moment on, the only words out of your mouth are 'Yes, sir,' 'No, sir,' and 'Aye aye, sir,' do you understand that?" he growls. "Yes, sir!" the men respond. "I said, 'Do you understand that?' " he screams, louder. "YES, SIR!" the men yell out, much louder and in unison. Four rows back are two young men, Robert Perez and Richard Maxwell.

Hillary Clinton gets new backing
Hillary Clinton today sought to barge Barack Obama out of the spotlight, announcing the backing of an influential black Congresswoman and then flying to Florida to celebrate an anticipated "victory" in the state’s primary. Momentum in this titanic Democratic presidential battle appears to have tilted towards Mr Obama in the past four days following his overwhelming South Carolina win, as well as the prize endorsement from Senator Edward Kennedy in Washington on Monday. But Mrs Clinton still has double-digit polling leads over Mr Obama in delegate-rich states which vote on "Super Tuesday" next week, including California, New York and New Jersey. Tonight she attempted to highlight her big state advantage by arriving in Florida, where she is widely expected to win today's primary.

13,000 Xerox People Are Changing Lives, Strengthening Communities, One ...
(CSRwire) STAMFORD, Conn. -- In 2002, Susan Bates and a team of Xerox volunteers from Wilsonville, Ore., wanted to put their artistic talents to good use - so they started a weekly art program at the Rosemont School for Girls in Portland. Bates, the Xerox Wilsonville volunteer coordinator, said the watercolor painting and arts and crafts classes are popular. And officials at Rosemont, the largest secure residential treatment center for troubled teen girls in the Pacific Northwest, have leveraged the success of the program to secure additional funding from the state. "Rosemont is often a last chance for these girls," Bates said. "Their mood and outlook has changed due to the positive mentoring of our volunteers and the opportunity to create something of value." Thousands of Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) employees throughout the United States volunteer for projects like these each year through the Xerox Community Involvement Program, which marks its 30th anniversary this year.
No More Wildcatters - No More Inferno
I have a story online about this with some more details, but here are the nuts and bolts. ECHL Board of Governors met Jan. 23 in Stockton, Calif. At that time, the Board gave Texas and Columbia a three-week extension to try and complete leases to stay in their respective towns. Both teams failed. Last Friday, there was a Board of Governors conference call. Texas and Columbia asked for more time. The Board said no. So Texas moves to Ontario, Calif., under new ownership, and Columbia gets a year-long suspension. The Wildcatters couldn't get a deal to renew their lease at Ford Arena, nor could they find a new arena to play in -- despite an agreement by local resident Sharon Terrell to buy the team next year. The Inferno, who play at the University of South Carolina's Columbia Coliseum, will take a yearlong suspension while they attempt to build a new arena in Lexington County, S.C.
